Tracc Civil is a civil engineering company that completes major earthworks, road construction, large scale walls and in-ground divisions. Much of their work is for State Government infrastructure projects and clients such as Alinta, Western Power, and Watercorp.
With multiple projects across Western Australia, Tracc Civil needed a more integrated system for the ordering, dispatch, delivery, tracking, and return of over 400 different types of equipment used on site.
Tracc Civil had previously relied on outdated InfoPath software to coordinate their large inventory of equipment and materials. For a typical job, it required sending spreadsheets from person to person. There was no simple central overview and there were high risks of duplication and double-handling.
Carl from Tracc Civil knew there had to be a better way. He spoke to the Bremmar team about possible solutions. Carl commented, “Brenton and Paul from Bremmar worked closely with me to map out a plan to migrate the inventory of equipment from the outdated InfoPath system into a new Microsoft Power Apps solution.”
Power Apps was used to create custom apps that Tracc Civil could use to manage materials and equipment requests at every step of a project’s workflow.
The new system allows managers to quote and cost jobs with simple pull-down menus of inventory items. The approved equipment is then loaded at the right time to deliver to site and checked-off on arrival. Additional equipment can be requested, approved and accounted for, plus everyone is informed if items are unavailable or placed on back order. Paul from Bremmar made sure he understood the needs of the Tracc Civil people involved in the equipment supply pipeline, and the parts they played in the process. These insights, combined with Carl’s succinct brief about what the new system should do, allowed Bremmar to tailor a very useful solution in Power Apps.
“I wanted a better way to manage ordering and delivery. Bremmar had the solutions,” states Carl.
The digital automation in the Power Apps streamlines many processes for Tracc Civil, reduces the risk of human error, and gives everyone total oversight of equipment and materials management. Users access data on site from their smart phones or tablet devices, plus it can be viewed in the office on desktop computers.
Staff who request materials have full visibility on the status of their order, so they know if it is pending review, parts allocated, delivery being made today, or delivery completed. The delivery drivers know what they are delivering. Project Managers can oversee the requests being made by the staff, and know what items are being costed to their jobs.
